Based on recent Lands of America data, Tennessee ranks fifth in the nation for the combined number of land listings currently for sale in the state. By overall acreage of land for sale, Tennessee ranks 11th. Internal data from Lands of America records over $10 billion in land and rural real estate for sale in the Volunteer State. The total size of land for sale in Tennessee is nearly 655,000 acres. Of Tennessee's 95 counties, Sevier County had the most land for sale. Based on comps submitted through the Lands of America Comparable Sales program in January, Tennessee is among the country's top five states for land sold during the month. This reflects an increase in sales activity over data from the previous month. The most land sales in the state last month were recorded in Greene County. The Volunteer State is home to 29 major reservoirs and 19,000 miles of warm- and cold-water streams, where anglers can wet a line for over 300 species of fish including crappie, bass, trout, and catfish. Big-game species in Tennessee include bear, deer, red deer, turkey, and elk. The state has also been ranked among the ten best states for the cost of living by U.S. News & World Report. In terms of its size, Tennessee is the country's 36th-largest state, covering an area of 42,146 square miles (27 million acres). In its entirety, 41,235 square miles covers land area, while the remaining 909 square miles is made up of water. Game species to be found on land for sale in Tennessee include turkey, whitetail deer, dove, hog, bear, ducks, and quail. Fishermen have their pick of bass, catfish, walleye, trout, and pike.
